Which recent sustainable initiatives has your company introduced, and how do you see these shaping the industry in the coming years?
SLB in Oman has launched several initiatives aimed at fostering Omanization, advancing renewable energy, boosting local manufacturing, driving digital transformation, and enhancing education. These efforts align with Oman’s Vision 2040, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.
In terms of Omanization, SLB has achieved an 82% local workforce, as of March 2025, and provides 120 internship opportunities, to young local talents, annually. The company also collaborates with national training programs such as Ruwad, Eddad, and Emdad to further develop Omani talents. These in-country experts are key to help us on the local manufacturing front.
As a company, we are committed to work with these local talents and help them develop so that they answer one of today’s and tomorrow’s key challenges, meeting our growing energy demand, sustainably.
Digital transformation is another key focus area, with SLB launching an AI Academy in collaboration with German University of Technology in Oman. Additionally, partnerships with the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, and Research aim to enhance AI (Artificial Intelligence) implementation in both public and private universities.
These efforts help cultivate future generations of engineers and innovators, reinforcing the country’s long-term’s objective of social, economic, and sustainable growth.
Can you share how your company is contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the impact your strategy will have?
SLB’s sustainability strategy aligns with the local United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), driving local talent development, energy innovation, and environmental sustainability in Oman, while reinforcing our global commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
In education (SDG 4), we established STEM and robotic labs in Nizwa schools and collaborated with the German University of Technology to equip students with AI skills.
Our contribution to industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9) is reflected in the "Made in Oman" products manufactured at our Rusayl Manufacturing and Nizwa ART Centers, enhancing in-country value (ICV).
In climate action (SDG 13), we are leading Oman’s first extended CO₂ pilot project with Petroleum Development Oman, paving the way for large-scale carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), while also leveraging our expertise in geothermal energy to support a sustainable energy transition. As part of our broader sustainability strategy, SLB is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through the integration of low-carbon technologies, enhanced operational efficiency, and close collaboration with stakeholders to drive Oman’s transition toward a sustainable energy future.
What are some of the key innovations and eco-friendly initiatives that attendees can look forward to seeing from your participation at OSW?
