Climate change requires a dual approach through both mitigation and adaptation strategies. While mitigation focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing carbon sinks through measures like renewable energy adoption and improved energy efficiency, adaptation involves adjusting to existing and anticipated climate changes and their effects. Veolia has developed a comprehensive strategy to address these challenges. Our approach encompasses three main challenges: ● Adapting operations to support client resilience, ● Meeting regulatory requirements, ● Ensuring service continuity while managing costs and resource availability. 1 We recognize the impacts on various aspects of the business, including service continuity, financial performance, water management, and workforce considerations. To implement our adaptation strategy effectively, we have developed a structured toolbox approach. This framework begins with analyzing operational exposure to climate risks, then identifies priority areas for adaptation through risk analysis, and assesses vulnerabilities across their activities. This systematic approach culminates in the development of targeted action plans that leverage Veolia's expertise. Ultimately, the message is clear: successfully addressing climate change requires both mitigation and adaptation strategies working in tandem. Mitigation is global, and adaptation is local and requires discussion with several stakeholders. Neither approach alone is sufficient; they must be implemented together to effectively address the complex challenges posed by climate change.
