Mohammad Abu Zahra joined the Global CCS Institute in 2022 as head of the Middle East Africa (MEA) region, bringing 18 years of deep experience and international expertise in the carbon capture field. He is also an experienced university professor and an associate editor for the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control. Mr Zahra previously held positions as a project manager and senior process engineer. Previous responsibilities included the management of projects in carbon-dioxide capture and CCS integrated systems, consultancy, chemical engineering and process design. Prior to joining the institute, he led and organised the 2021 GHGT-15 conference hosted by Khalifah University and established the first dedicated carbon capture research group in the UAE. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Jordan, a master of process design and development from the University of Twente and a PhD in chemical engineering–process and energy from Delft University of Technology.
