About
The IPCC estimates that in order to meet current climate goals, up to 360 CtCO₂ of net removal is needed by the end of the century. Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) is often touted as a solution for high-emission sectors to decarbonise. Recent reports estimate that CCUS must grow fortyfold by 2050, But high costs and infrastructure demands mean that scaling CCUS remains challenging. This session will examine technological advances, discuss its feasibility and consider what it will take for the oil and gas sector to implement it effectively. Can CCUS deliver on its promise, or is it an overhyped technology used by fossil fuel producers in lieu of shifting away from coal and oil?
